These systems are useful when a project involves different cable sizes, changing deck layouts or multiple offshore cable handling scenarios.
Reel Drive System Compatible Reels
OceanSi can manufacture cable reels compatible with external reel drive systems. In this arrangement, the reel can be rotated by an external drive tower or reel drive unit instead of an integrated motor.
This configuration can be useful for offshore cable laying, subsea power cable handling, wind farm cable projects and heavy cable storage where flexibility between different reel sizes is required.
CABLE SPOOLER SYSTEMS
PRECISION.
CONTROL.
MAXIMUM PERFORMANCE.
OceanSi manufactures offshore cable spoolers for controlled winding, unwinding, transfer and handling of subsea power cables, submarine fiber optic cables, offshore umbilicals, wire rope and other cable products. A cable spooler is normally used when a project needs controlled cable movement between a reel, drum, storage area, vessel deck or installation spread. The aim is to keep the cable moving smoothly while protecting the cable jacket, maintaining the required minimum bending radius and reducing manual handling on deck. Each cable spooler can be designed around the cable diameter, cable length, cable weight, minimum bending radius, pulling force, spooling speed, drum size, drive method, braking system, control system and vessel deck arrangement.

Level Wind, Braking and Cable Control
Cable spoolers can be supplied with manual, hydraulic or powered level wind systems where controlled cable layering is required. A level wind system helps guide the cable across the drum or reel during spooling and can reduce the risk of poor cable build-up. Braking systems can be selected based on the spooler duty. Options can include holding brakes, service brakes, fail-safe brakes and controlled braking arrangements for safe cable handling during loading, payout and recovery. Operator control can be supplied through local control panels, remote control stations, HMI screens or integration with the wider cable lay spread control system.
Deck Integration and Offshore Mobilisation
OceanSi can manufacture the spooler frame, skid base, deck grillage, access platform, guards and lifting points as part of the complete equipment package. The spooler can be designed for vessel deck installation, barge mobilisation, shore-base operations or temporary project deployment. Where required, OceanSi can support containerized or modular cable handling packages for fast mobilisation and easier offshore integration.
Design Information Required
To specify a cable spooler, OceanSi usually reviews the cable data, deck layout and operating method. Useful RFQ information includes cable diameter, cable weight, cable length, minimum bending radius, required line pull, required spooling speed, drum size, available deck space, power supply, drive preference, control requirements and whether the spooler is needed for storage, transfer, deployment, repair or recovery.
